ESFL’s 5th Anniversary with Jelani Cobb!

Jelani CobbUPDATE – General ticket sales are now sold out. Thank you for your enthusiasm! Event details are below for attendees, but no additional tickets are available.

Please join on June 12 for a special evening celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the East Side Freedom Library! Our special guest and featured speaker will be Jelani Cobb, one of country’s leading practitioners of activist scholarship and citizen journalism. Dr. Cobb will address “The Half-Life of Freedom.” He explains: “One hundred fifty-four years ago, enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. Today we find ourselves in a battle for democracy in the United States. This is a talk about freedom, injustice, and the histories that connect the challenges of the past to the struggles of the present.” Learn more in this short video (see the full video below)!

Doors open at 5:30 PM for refreshments, and tickets are limited. We are pleased to offer these tickets at substantially reduced price thanks to the generosity of Cummins & Cummins law firm. We look forward to seeing you there!
