The Fall of Wisconsin: The Conservative Conquest of a Progressive Bastion and the Future of American Politics
Thursday, October 11, 2018, 7:00pm
For more than a century, Wisconsin had been known nationwide for its progressive ideas and government. It served as a “laboratory of democracy,” a cradle of the labor and environmental movements. But following a Republican sweep of the state’s government in 2010, Wisconsin’s political heritage appeared to be overturned. The Fall of Wisconsin is a searing account of not only the 2010 elections and its consequences, but also a careful consideration of the state’s history. Neither sentimental nor despairing, Dan Kaufman also chronicles the efforts of citizens who are fighting to reclaim his state’s progressive legacy.
The Fall of Wisconsin has been hailed by reviewers at the New York Times and National Public Radio. It has been called “illuminating, unsettling, and profoundly relevant.”
