“Gaza Fights for Freedom” documents the Gaza protest movement, known as the Great March of Return, which began in 2018 and continued through last year, during which the Israeli Defense Forces killed more than 200 unarmed Palestinian civilians and injured tens of thousands more. Through her collaboration with videographers and journalists on the ground in Gaza, Martin was able to put together a compelling and important documentary that mainstream media outlets relying on Israeli government sources, cannot provide. Throughout the film historical context and statistics are given to allow the viewer to understand the situation in the tiny area of land known as the Gaza Strip.
Jewish Voice for Peace is a national organization dedicated to promoting justice, equality and liberation for all people. JVP is dedicated to changing the discourse in the United States around Palestine and as a Jewish organization, this means elevating the subject of justice for Palestinians and bringing that subject into Jewish spaces. JVP believes, as the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3379 of 1975 stated, that Zionism is a form of racism, and that we must differentiate between the political nationalist philosophy of Zionism and the religion of Judaism.
JVP-TC has been working on the local, state-wide, and federal level to encourage legislators to adopt policies which promote human rights for Palestinians and other disenfranchised people. They work to educate people in all venues, including schools, churches, and government.
Light snacks will follow the screening and discussion. Literature and t-shirts will also be available.
