Do you dream of owning your own business?
Do you want a loan to buy a home?
Have you tried to open a checking account
but are stopped from getting one?
The City of St. Paul recently passed a Responsible Banking Ordinance, which requires the City to look at how well a financial institution is serving the community before deciding which bank will get City business.
The Community Reinvestment Advisory Committee along with the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation’s Community Connections is sponsoring a series of community conversations: What do we want from financial institutions? How should they make their services accessible to us and what would a more just and fair banking system look like?
Cleveland, Ohio has had a Responsible Banking law for over 20 years, and receives over $500 million a year from banks operating in the city for community priorities like home and small business loans in low-income communities.
