The East Side Freedom Library and the St. Paul Recovery Act Reading Group invite you to our monthly Reparations Reading Group, The Labor Movement and the Fight for Reparations.
Register here to join this event on Zoom.
What roles has the labor movement played in institutionalizing racial inequities? What roles has the labor movement played in struggles for racial justice? What is the legacy of its complex history? What roles does the labor movement play today? And what roles might it play in the future? Join our monthly reading and discussion group as we tackle these challenging questions.
Here are some readings which can prepare us for a well-informed and productive conversation:
- This recent essay from YES! magazine explores the role of workplace power in the struggle for reparations
- Labor educator and veteran activist Bill Fletcher, Jr., uses the quest for racial justice to rethink the functioning of unions
- Labor historian and biographer of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mike Honey, seeks historical lessons
- A video with Bill Fletcher, Jr.
We encourage you to engage these materials in preparation for our conversation.
