As we continue our investigation into the development of institutional and systemic racism in the United States, we turn our attention to the Great Migration in which millions of African Americans left the South in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and the explosion of race riots and bloodshed which led to the name of “the Red Summer” of 1919. How are these experiences interwoven with current discussions of racial justice, equity, and reparations?
