Join Jewish Community Action, the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation, and ESFL for a workshop informing community members about the city’s banking contract and why it matters.
Jewish Community Action has been working on economic justice from a reinvestment, bank-accountability perspective for a number of years. We now have a chance to change the City of St. Paul’s current banking contract, the contract that decides which bank gets the City’s money, which is the public’s money. We hope to change it from one contract that favors the top five banks in the nation to smaller contracts that can be serviced by local, community banks. We can also change the process of choosing a bank from including no community input to having a banking committee with community members. Finally, the current contract that asks no questions about residents’ basic banking needs; we want to shape it so that the selection process considers banks’ products and investment history when choosing it or not. The deadline for shaping process is early winter 2017, when the City would like to issue the contract’s request for proposal.
Jewish Community Action, the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation and East Side Freedom Library will co-host a gathering to further explore these issues on on 11/16 7pm – 8:30pm at the East Side Freedom Library.
