National History Day “Zoom Room”
January 30, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm CST
Event Navigation
This event will occur weekly on Saturdays from December 12th through April 24th
The East Side Freedom Library is offering a National History Day “Zoom Room” where experienced mentors will provide guidance and access to resources for students engaged in History Day projects. We encourage students to make initial contacts with us by email at [email protected]. You can also email us to ask for our list of suggested topics, which we will be glad to send you. Students are also welcome to just show up in our “Zoom Room” any Saturday morning by using this link.
Students, we will work with you to identify which of our mentors is best suited to support your project, and we will arrange one-on-one follow up online conversations bringing you together with them. We will also identify resources for you, many of which we can access and provide to you electronically through our connections with local academic libraries, some of which we will work to make available to you at ESFL. We will be managing our space very carefully, attentive to safety protocols. Your health, our health, is our top priority.
The ESFL team is particularly excited about this year’s theme: “Communications in History.” You can see from our list of possible topics that we are well-suited to help you find a focused project that will engage the theme and provide you with an opportunity to wrestle with something that is meaningful to you. Communications—by newspapers, speeches, poems, music, visual art, music, and more—has been central to every movement to make our country better—whether led by women, workers, immigrants, people of color, GLBTQ+ activists. We expect that the 2021 theme will generate rich and exciting projects.
Here is a short video which will introduce you to two of our mentors and our space.
