The past month has seen extraordinary developments in labor organizing, as workers at Amazon warehouses and Starbucks coffee shops have organized in a series of workplaces, with more unfolding as we watch. Is this a new chapter in labor history? Does this suggest significant changes in the focus of labor activism? Is this the expression of a new generation taking hold of unions as a way to make their lives better?
In early April, inspired by Daisy Pitkin’s new memoir, ON THE LINE, ESFL convened a group of labor activists to talk with Daisy about her experiences as an organizer in Arizona and her reflections on those experiences. It was a great conversation. Here is a video of the event. Daisy is now a lead organizer for Workers’ United in the Starbucks campaign.
