Immigration and the Making of St. Paul
Tuesdays, October 9th and 16th, 2018, 6:30-8:30pm
Immigration is one of the most controversial issues in contemporary American life and politics. Take this opportunity to develop a richer and more complex sense of immigration’s role in the shaping of one major city, St. Paul. This is the first (2-session) course in a series of 3 courses that will be offered during the 2018-2019 school year. Each course explores a particular era in St. Paul’s immigration history: the people, their culture and their contribution to the making of St. Paul.
Learn about the experiences of the Northern and Western Europeans (Irish, Germans, Swedes, and Norwegians) who arrived and established themselves by the era of the Civil War. Explore why they came to St. Pul, how their cultures and communities evolved over time, and their impact on the city.
