How can Saint Paul build more housing? A conversation with Sustain Saint Paul

January 7, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm CST

Event Navigation

The East Side Freedom Library invites you to a conversation on zoning reform in Saint Paul, “How can Saint Paul build more housing? A conversation with Sustain Saint Paul” featuring Luke Hanson from Sustain Saint Paul and ESFL’s Housing Justice program.

Register here to join this event on Zoom.

Saint Paul’s shortage of housing has led to community activism, policy changes, and action from the city council and mayor. Many developers have paused development after the renter focused rent stabilization policy has been passed while at the same time Ramsey county and the city of Saint Paul have set aside 73 million dollars for deeply affordable housing. But why did we end up with a shortage in the first place? How are our laws written to encourage the crisis to continue?

Sustain Saint Paul is a group of Saint Paulites looking at how we build housing in Saint Paul and what could be done better. A recent 1-4 zoning study from Saint Paul’s Planning and Economic Development department presents an opportunity for additional housing options such as Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). Join us to discuss what the study could lead to, and how you can get engaged with making our city a better place to live.
