Ethiopia’s Multinational Federation in Light of the Philosophy of “Medemer”
October 27, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am CDT
Event Navigation
Barely a week after winning the Nobel Peace Prize, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the launch of a new book, Medemer, which presents his philosophy of government. Published simultaneously in three languages—Amharic, English and his mother tongue Afan Oromo—the title is being translated as “synergy.” According to a report by state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporation, the initial press run of Medemer is one million copies, and there will be book launches in 20 towns across regional states in Ethiopia and in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Minnesota.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has presented his political philosophy as a different approach to unity than that practiced by the long-governing Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) and its leadership by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
Please join these distinguished members of the local Oromo community in the conversation: Zecharias Hailu; Abduljelil Abdella; Nagessa Oddo Dube; Amane Badhasso; Mahadi Mohammed.
