Class & the Arts: Organized Labour Gathering #2
November 16, 2015 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm CST
Event Navigation
Come join us for another gathering of the Organized Labour groups that represent the arts industry: musicians, actors, directors, choreographers, writers, stagehands and more!
organized by
Khoo Wu Chen, well known Twin Cities lighting designer and co-founder of Technical Tools of the Trade(www.techtoolstraining.org)
Working in the Arts is commonly viewed as low-paying and unsteady work, but a reward in itself. While a few artists sport massive incomes, these stories only serve to highlight the difficulties for those without the economic stability to work in a field that continues to be powered by subsistence wages, unsteady employment, and volunteer labor. Critical acclaim is always pleasant, but it often does not translate into food and shelter.
As we grapple with issues of access and diversity, any plan of action can only be meaningful with an honest consideration of the role of social and economic class in the matter.
Please join us for an open and frank conversation of the role of class in the funding, wage structure, access and diversity – and even in the art itself – of the Art and Entertainment Industry.
