Fire in the New World
Written and directed by R.A. Shiomi
Friday, December 7th at 7:30pm
Fire In The New World is the third part in R.A. Shomi’s trilogy of plays about the Japanese Canadian detective, Sam Shikaze. Set in the early 1960’s between the two other plays (Rosie’s Café set in the 1950’s and Yellow Fever set in the 1970’s), Fire In The New World looks at the Japanese Canadian community in Vancouver under the threat of destruction again but this time from urban renewal. And this time the upheaval is complicated by the wife of the developer taking refuge on Powell Street.
