The past year has seen new energy and passion flow into the labor movement, much of it from young workers in industries which have never been unionized before.  Across the country and locally, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, Half Price Bookstore, and Amazon workers have organized, struck, and, in some cases, won first contracts. In a similar vein, museum workers and other cultural workers have organized and sought not only higher wages and job security, but also a voice in how their institutions present art, history, science, and culture. In the Twin Cities, their counterparts at the Walker Art Center, the Minnesota Historical Society, and the Science Museum of Minnesota have organized, inspiring their previously organized fellow workers at MIA to seek better working conditions and more of a voice.

What better way to celebrate May Day than to hear from some of these workers about their reasons for organizing, their strategies for organizing, their experiences together, and their dreams for how their work, their lives, and the very functioning of their institutions could be better. What do you want? What can we all dream together?
