August 24, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm CDT

Event Navigation

For this presentation, Carolyn will read from the new Minnesota Historical Society Press collection, A GOOD TIME FOR THE TRUTH, and her granddaughter Xaundra Nawa will read poetry and perform songs she has composed.

Carolyn Holbrook teaches at Hamline University and Minneapolis Community & Technical College, and teaches journaling workshops in a variety of venues. Her personal essays have been published widely, most recently in A Good Time For The Truth: Race in Minnesota (MNHS Press) and Blues Vision: African American Writing from Minnesota (MNHS Press). In 2016, she was named one of 50 of the most inspiring and accomplished leaders in Minnesota over the age of 50 by AARP and Pollen Midwest.

Xaundra Nawa is a poet and composer/lyricist. She is a member of Well Placed Commas, a small group of transgender and queer artists that meets for a couple hours every Sunday to bang out and share a couple of poems. Xaundra has read and performed at the Fox Egg gallery and the Seward Café.

Free and open to all.
