Event Navigation

EAST SIDE FREEDOM LIBRARY and ST. PAUL PUBLIC SCHOOLS COMMUNITY EDUCATION invite you to “Walking Tour: Immigration & the (Re)Making of Saint Paul’s East Side.” On Saturday, September 30, 10:00am–12:00pm, join Peter Rachleff, Co-Executive Director of the East Side Freedom Library, for a walking tour that explores the present through the lens of the past. Meet first at the East Side Freedom Library and travel to Swede Hollow to explore its role as the first site of settlements in the 1850s. Focusing on Payne Avenue, we’ll consider its role as a center of immigrant life from the European immigrants of the 19th century, to the Hmong, Mexican, and Salvadoran immigrants of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Rain date is October 14. We will walk approximately 2 miles. Then, we will rest and talk at the Library.

There is a suggested $22 registration fee. Space is limited. Register online at www.commed.spps.org or Please call Community Ed at 651-744-3072 to register. Meet at 10am at East Side Freedom Library, 1105 Greenbrier St., St. Paul, MN 55106.
