DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, August 4 | 6:00–8:00 p.m | East Side Freedom Library \nConnecting Struggles: From Chile to the Boundary Waters\, Community Resistance to Antofagasta Minerals Corp\nChilean communities have been resisting copper-nickel mining by Antofagasta Minerals (Twin Metals) for decades. Chilean political economist Fernando Leiva Letelier has worked with these communities and researched the strategies that Antofagasta Mining uses to suppress resistance\, divide communities\, and coopt institutions. The Luksic family that owns Antofagasta Mining is one of the 25 richest families in the world\, and in Chile their name is synonymous with exploitation. \nIt is time that Minnesotans connect with Chilean land defenders and scholars who have been on the frontlines of the fight\, so we can learn from one another to strengthen our work to fight back against the propaganda playbook they use against our communities. \nJoin us for a presentation and conversation with Dr. Fernando Leiva Letelier on Tuesday\, August 4th from 6-8pm at the East Side Freedom Library (1105 Greenbrier St\, St Paul). \nThis event is free and open to the public\, and we are an ADA-compliant and wheelchair accessible space. \n\n\nWe’d love to know you’re coming: register here if you’re comfortable doing so.\nIt’s never required\, and walk-ins are always welcome. \n\nEvent organized by ESFL staff\, but looking to co-sponsor with other EJ groups! \n\n\nReach out to us at: info@eastsidefreedomlibrary.org with any questions or if your group is interested in co-sponsoring or tabling at the event.

A chance to reflect on what a home can mean for yourself and your neighbors.\ \nKao Kalia Yang and Katrina Mendoza are two powerful women who both have childhood memories of a blue house. Kao Kalia grew up in a blue house on St Paul’s East Side\, and Katrina’s abuela lived in a blue house in the West Side neighborhood. Each house was a site of safety and community for them and their communities. We are continuing that work by coalition building and creating events that help us rethink common narratives around housing \nWhat are Third Thursdays?\nAs part of our Housing Justice Program\, we are holding events on Third Thursdays to talk about housing in a variety of ways\, like documentary screenings and talks with local activists! We hope to spark invigorating discussion and build quality connections amongst our community. \nWhy you should come!\nCome through to learn and meet others who care about housing! We want people to carry lessons from these events beyond our four walls and make connections.
