History Help Day Sessions

January 16, 2027 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Event Series (See All)

The East Side Freedom Library invites students to benefit from our rich resources and our experienced mentors!

The 2027 National History Day theme asks students to think about significant changes in history and the reactions to those changes. Are students interested in
racial justice, labor activism, women’s rights, immigrant history, GLBTQ+ movements, environmental activism, and more? Send them to the East Side Freedom Library to find rich resources (books, art, music, and more) for their research and experienced mentors eager to help them shape their project. We have worked effectively with local students for the past ten years.

ESFL’s collection of 38,000 books highlight labor, civil rights, immigration, Native American, Latinx, African-American, women’s, and social justice topics. Our team of experienced mentors are prepared to help students find resources for the specific topics of their choosing. The following list of topics is meant to be suggestive of projects students can undertake to explore innovations in areas of their interest, and the consequent impact, influence, and changes these innovations had.

ESFL’s mentors can help with thesis development, finding additional sources, developing performance strategies, and structuring an argument. We have contacts with professors and primary source collections, and we are committed to helping students set up interviews. We are experienced in supporting projects which use documentary videos, performance (both solo and group), story boards, interactive websites, and papers.

Scheduled History Day Help Sessions: Saturday mornings, November 14, 2026 – April 24, 2027 10am–12.

We encourage students to make an appointment by emailing peter@eastsidefreedomlibrary.org, and that they be prepared to follow our safety protocols, including wearing a mask if asked (as we are unsure what our precautions will be as we get deeper into the fall). After their initial mentoring consultation, they will be welcome to come at other times to use our resources, and our mentors will be available for one-on-one conversations, in person or remotely. If you would like to speak with us, feel free to call us at 651-230-3294. We look forward to working with you!
