Working Within or Outside the System (Roundtable Discussion)

December 19, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm CST

Event Navigation

Audre Lorde is often quoted as saying, “For the master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house. They may allow us to temporarily beat him at his game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change.”

Working for change is complex. How and with whom does one go about it? What are the ramifications of working with established, mainstream institutions and systems? What does it mean to reject the established institutions and methods and work outside the usual economic and political structures? Is it even possible?

Join us for a roundtable discussion as we dig into this very important and very complex topic, especially in the wake of the current discussions about the political system.

Co-sponsored by Class & the Arts Discussion Network and the American Civic Forum.
