The East Side Freedom Library invites you to:
Studying History, Growing the Future
Saturday, May 19, 2018, 10:30am – 1pm

Join us to celebrate the teachers and students who have developed History Day projects here at the East Side Freedom Library.  Since November, a team of dedicated teachers has provided a Saturday morning “History Day Learning Center,” each week.  From college interns to retired teachers, they have offered advice, encouragement, and inspiration to nearly 100 students, from sixth graders to high school seniors.   These students, from across the Twin Cities metro area, have engaged the 2018 theme of “Conflict and Compromise” by creating exhibit boards, documentary videos, performance pieces, and websites.  Some have even written papers!  Their topics have ranged from the 1902 anthracite coal miners’ strike to the suppression of Christianity in post- war Vietnam, and many, many fascinating subjects in between.

On Saturday, May 19, we will feature the full range of student projects and celebrate their accomplishments.  Come see young people who have taken responsibility to analyze difficult historical conflicts and tell stories in their own voices.
