Sixty-One (Book Reading)

January 29, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm CST

Event Navigation

Larry Johnson, storyteller, educator, and peace activist, will tell and read stories from his just-published SIXTY-ONE. The author served as a conscientious objector, medic with no weapon, during the War in Vietnam. Framed between his JFK inspired 50 Mile Hike in 1961 and the 61 Mile Hike he took on his 61st birthday, Johnson’s stories reflect a lifelong search for the stories hidden by a culture bent on war.

Johnson will share what he learned from Geneva Conventions training in the military, as well as “Just War Theory” in the church. He will read from the wisdom of THE DEAD SEYMOUR SCROLLS and provide a revised 1040(G) tax form for the OGP (Old Gardening Party), established in the 1970s to make the world safe for children, gardening, and storytelling. There will be light snacks, Veterans for Peace bell-ringing, and copies of SIXTY-ONE available to purchase.
