Neighbors Meet Neighbors: Members of the Oromo Community

October 17, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm CDT

Event Navigation

The East Side Freedom Library invites you to join us for “Neighbors Meet Neighbors: Members of the Oromo Community,” as part of a series of forums centered around the stories and experiences of recent immigrants to the east side communities.

The Oromo are East Africa’s largest nation with a rich cultural, spiritual and social tradition. Pictured above is an image of the Irreecha ceremony. In Ethiopia, home to the majority of Oromo, the main celebration of Irreecha in October coincides with the end of the summer rainy season. Irreecha is attended by millions of people each year at Lake Arsadi, in Oromia and throughout the world wherever there is an Oromo community. (http://addisstandard.com/irreecha)

Please come to meet our Oromo neighbors, hear their stories, and learn about some of their experiences.

Tuesday, October 17th @ 7 pm

Free and Open To All.
