The East Side Freedom Library invites you to meet:

Johnny B. Thomas, veteran of the Civil Rights Movement and Mayor of Glendora, Mississippi

Tuesday, April 17, 2018, noon – 1:30pm

Glendora, Mississippi, is located in Tallahatchie County, infamous as the site of the 1953 murder of Emmett Till. This incident directly touched Mayor Thomas’ life, as his father, a sharecropper, was forced to participate in the abduction of 14 year old Emmett Till, and Mr. Thomas has focused his life on engaging this history in all its complications. He founded the Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center (ETHIC) in Glendora, which educates regional youth and tourists about that history. In 1982, Mr. Thomas was elected mayor of Glendora, and he has recently written and published his memoir.

ESFL thanks the University of St. Thomas for bringing Mayor Thomas to St. Paul and inviting the East Side Freedom Library to introduce him to our community.  Please join us for a light lunch and a deep conversation.
