“HUMAN PROOF FENCE”
and continue the conversation prompted by this art

Saturday, November 10th, 1:00pm
Community panel with members of several immigrant and refugee communities

ESFL founders have long been haunted by the 2002 Australian film, “Rabbit Proof Fence,” which told the story of three mixed race Aboriginal girls who escaped from a re-education camp in 1931 by following a thousand mile fence (which had been erected to contain rabbits) back to their home community. Inspired by this story, we shaped the concept of an art exhibit to be called “Human Proof Fence.”

With the support of the Marbrook Foundation, ESFL has convened five visual artists with direct or allied experiences of dislocation, confinement, borders, walls, and resettlement. For six months, Aye Lwai, Rosie Say, Ger Yang, Pacha Galavix, and John Matsunaga have had conversations with each other. They have created powerful visual expressions of their communities’ experiences.
