Empowering Teachers, Engaging Race, Moving Forward

January 7, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm CST

Event Navigation

Since June, the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers and the East Side Freedom Library have been sponsoring discussions about the challenges to education posed by inequality, especially racial inequality. Teachers, parents, and community members have read and discussed books and articles and have viewed and discussed films. These exciting conversations have also been grounded in the personal experiences of the participants.

ben_mchie_bwJoin us on January 7 to explore resources and strategies to diversify the materials we use in the classroom with our students. We will begin with a presentation by Ben Mchie, the founder and executive director of the African American Registry, which provides web-based curriculum and resources, as well as hands-on workshops for teachers, students, and interested community members. Ben’s presentation will lead into a discussion of the kinds of materials we have found useful or would like to use.
