Both Sides of Feminism: A Conversation with Author Paula Overby

January 24, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm CST

Event Navigation

East Side Freedom Library invites you to a conversation with author and activist Paula Overby

Paula Overby, author of “The Transgender Myth: Through the Gender Looking Glass,” will provide a look at how the 70s feminist movement still impacts the politics of today’s feminism. Paula will also provide a short reading from her book about the unusual ways her lifelong friendship eluded gender boundaries.

Paula is a transgender woman. Raised as a boy, she says she instinctively believed that anything that was good for women would be good for her. As a child, she dreamed of being a 50’s-TV-style mom, just like her own mother. Paula has two daughters of her own and one son. Her book, “The Transgender Myth,” examines the social, political, economic and legal impact of gender on her life as a transgender woman.

Paula has also authored “Transgender Candidate Perspectives on Gender in Social Policy” for The Routledge Handbook of LGBTQIA Administration and Policy.
