Event Navigation

The East Side Freedom Library invites you to a conversation with local author, Calvin Roetzel, about his new book

I Knew We Wuz Poor
Tuesday, August 21, 2018, 7pm

With stories, original poetry, and vivid prose, this book views the Great Depression through childhood memories. Evoking pain and joy, bitter failures and euphoric successes, it highlights the way women (a grandmother, an aunt, and a sister) influenced the author’s life, from surviving the Depression on an Arkansas farm to becoming a scholar and teacher with a deep impact on generations of students.

Cal Roetzel taught at the college and university level for forty two years and became an internationally recognized scholar of the Apostle Paul. He has also translated the Civil War letters of a German speaking Union soldier, served as an Air Force chaplain and a parish minister, and been a much beloved mentor.
