American Dream: A Film Screening and Discussion

September 23, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm CDT

Event Navigation

Join us at the East Side Freedom Library for a screening of the Academy Award-winning documentary, “American Dream,” and a post-film discussion with Paula Rabinowitz, Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Minnesota and author of They Must Be Represented: The Politics of Documentary.

Paula has donated a substantial collection of books in feminist literary and film analysis to ESFL.  She is contributing an essay to a new collection being assembled about “American Dream” filmmaker Barbara Kopple, the winner of two Oscars.  She will be joined in the discussion by ESFL co-executive director Peter Rachleff, who was chairperson of the Twin Cities P-9 Solidarity Committee during the Hormel strike.  That strike is the subject of “American Dream.” (photo courtesy of University of Minnesota, College of Liberal Arts webpage June 24, 2016)
