Sock Hop Social Party

January 17, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm CST

Event Navigation

Screen Shot 2015-12-24 at 12.30.21 PMCo-sponsored by The Theater and The Arts Network and inspired by the Woolgathering Project, we invite you to a sock hop social party!

For the past six months, the Theater and the Arts Network has been sponsoring conversations among theater artists and others about the role of class and economics in the shaping of work in the theater industry – from the working conditions and compensation of cultural workers in a wide range of disciplines (playwrights, directors, actors, lighting and set designers, carpenters, electricians, and more) to the very nature of the work that gets put on stage. We have discussed the roles of major regional theaters, smaller companies, unions and guilds, and such employment structures as “independent contracting.” These conversations have been eye-opening and inspiring as well as informative, and now participants are looking for ways to act together to build solidarity and community. Join us at the outset of the new year to build relationships across the many crafts and trades that are involved in creating dramatic work and putting it in front of the public.

Admission Fee: One or more pairs of new or gently used socks which will be donated to local homeless children, men, and women.
